In collaboration with her father Johann Kamleitner, who is a farmer, artist Sarah Maria Kamleitner will place a cube, containing a cross section of a wheat field, into the Perg-Strudengau landscape. Departing from questions regarding the compensation of agricultural labor and the cost of raw materials in the food industry, the installation invites visitors to look, observe, and reflect. Supporting the aesthetic intervention of the wheat cube, Sarah and Johann Kamleitner will also present discursive and disseminative formats, aiming to initiate a valuable dialog between producers and consumers.
In collaboration with her father Johann Kamleitner, who is a farmer, artist Sarah Maria Kamleitner will place a cube, containing a cross section of a wheat field, into the Perg-Strudengau landscape. Departing from questions regarding the compensation of agricultural labor and the cost of raw materials in the food industry, the wheat – which will shoot up into a wheat field within the spatial installation – is intended to invite Festival guests and locals to think about the topics of agricultural production processes and fair pay in the food industry, extending to a reflection on our consumer society. Supporting the aesthetic interventions, Sarah and Johann Kamleitner will also present discursive and disseminative formats for the Festival program, aiming to initiate a valuable dialog between producers and consumers.
The wheat cube will be lit up at night and will thus construct a temporary, aesthetic highlight in the Perg-Strudengau region. In collaboration with the Winkler Bakery, both “big and small” Festival visitors will have the chance to bake bread that was specially developed for the Festival within workshops.
The project “A Ton” was conceptualized and implemented at Vienna Design Week in 2018. It was also shown in cooperation with the ZOOM Children’s Museum in the Vienna Museumsquartier. It received the Erste Bank MehrWERT Design Award in 2018. It has been adapted and further devloped by the artist for the Festival of the Regions.
