Katsdorf media artist and director Gerald Harringer gathered stories in the Perg-Strudengau region, gathering stories from the past and present on the topic of civic courage, which can be experienced as a sound collage during two-hour bus tours. The stories talk about standing up for someone, practicing disobedience, defending oneself, taking a stand, expressing one’s opinion where others didn’t find the bravery. The route travels to locations in the region that were or are sites of acts of civic courage.

Katsdorf media artist and director Gerald Harringer will travel through the Perg-Strundegau region, gathering stories from the past and present on the topic of civic courage. For this purpose, he will organize radio and media workshops and events with the Festival of the Regions and Rosvita Kröll from Radio FRO that will target the general public and cooperations with regional associations and institutions. The collected stories talk about standing up for someone, being disobedient, defying orders, defending oneself, researching, questioning, taking a stand, stating one’s opinion in public, especially in spaces where others haven’t found the bravery.
During the festival, guests can go on an auditory and commemorative journey. The stories and accounts can be experienced during two-hour long bus tours through the region. The routes travel to the locations in the region that were or are sites of acts of civic courage, defiance, bravery, and of people rising up against oppression. Back at the departure location, the travelers will have the opportunity to exchange and receive more detailed information on what they have heard.

Gerald Harringer lives and works as a freelance media artist, filmmaker, author, and cultural manager in Katsdorf, Upper Austria. He studied at the University of Art and Design Linz and Central Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design in London. He worked on the video archive of “The Kitchen” in New York and is a co-founder of “Die Fabrikanten.”
Rosvita Kröll, born in 1974, is an everyday activist, vulnerability researcher and peace communicator.
Radio FRO – Free Radio of Upper Austria is a free radio station with a variety of formats, cultures, generations, and languages.
Gerald Harringer, born in 1962, studied from 1984–1990 at the University of Art and Design Linz and subsequently completed his post-graduate studies in Film and Video at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. He was media associate of “The Kitchen” video archive in New York from 1993–1994, and was one of the founders of the Linz based artist cooperative and communication agency “Die Fabrikanten.” Gerald Harringer has lived in Katsdorf/Upper Austria for ten years and works as a freelance media artist, filmmaker, and cultural manager. He has been doing research on the Nazi Era in Mühlviertel since 2014. In May 2015, he conceptualized and initiated the play reading “70 Years …” at the Kino Katsdorf (https://70jahrefrieden.wordpress.com). He is currently working as the author and director of two film projects, which also focus on the topic of “civic courage” and “gestures of humanity.”
Rosvita Kröll, born in 1974, is an everyday activist, vulnerability researcher, peace communicator, loves life, art, and culture as well as dreaming, learning, moderating, and leaving things be at times. She heads the educational divisions of Radio FRO and was longtime director of FIFTITU% – Networking Center for Women in Art and Culture in Upper Austria. She volunteers at maiz – Center for and by Migrant Women and in the Network for Nonviolent Communication Austria.
Because words work, she also decided to become certified as an international trainer for non-violent communication at the CNVC (Center for Nonviolent Communication) in 2016. She spends her life with her partner, two grown children, a dog, a cat, and many friends.
Radio FRO – Free Radio of Upper Austria is a free radio station with a variety of formats, cultures, generations, and languages. As a site for the free transmission of information, music, radio art, and experiments on the air, transmission lines, and online, the offices and studio spaces of Radio FRO remain open for people, initiatives, and organizations: over 400 radio makers, who are socially, culturally or artistically engaged, provide for the diversity of the programs and content of over 150 different radio shows. Radio FRO is a community project and a non-commercial medium.
