A Literary Feast for All. The „Banquet at the Bank“ celebrates 10 years of the „Summer of Migration“ when many people from Syria, Afghanistan and Iran had to leave their countries and came to Austria in 2015. There will be an open brunch beside to the Inn river and many stories by foreign writers.
In 2015, the Inn Bridge was often closed by the police to control new arrivals and their supporters. In 2025, the bridge will become its own metaphor – at a banquet on the Inn, we invite everyone to talk about their dreams from 2015 that came to be and which are still waiting to be realized.
The central element of the remembrance celebration is the trilingual book “The Long Winter of Migration” (Arabic, Farsi, German) that includes essays and short stories by the invited authors. All texts are available in all three languages. We are dedicating the book to the memory of the Syrian-Salzburg author Jad Turjman, who died in an accident in the Alps. The texts will be presented at the “Banquet at the Bank” on June 15, 4 – 7 pm, and at an evening event at ZIMT on June 16, 7 pm.

Pooyan Moghaddassi (Wien)
*1982 in Tehran, Iran. Writer, poet and playwright. He has lived in Vienna since 2015 and currently works as a leisure teacher at Viennese schools. Publications with Iranian exile publishers in Farsi and Farsi/English: ‘The Hectic Motorway of Concern’ (short stories), Tehran 2014; ‘I Wish I Could Carry Pomegranates’ (poems), London 2016; ‘Summer 65’ (novella), London 2017. His theatre play ‘Die Worte bei der Inquisitionsparty beobachten’/‘Watching The Words Parade At The Inquisition Banquet’, translated by Nick Rastin, Roonak Publication, Rotterdam 2019, was performed at Khane Ketab at WUK in Vienna in the same year. The novella ‘The Forgotten Graves’ will be published by an Iranian exile publisher in London in 2025.
Widad Nabi (Berlin)
* born 1985 in Kobani, Syria, grew up in Aleppo, now lives in Berlin. The Kurdish-Syrian poet and author completed a bachelor’s degree in economics at the University of Aleppo. During the war, she joined the opposition to Assad and had to flee to Europe by sea and land in 2015. She writes for numerous magazines and newspapers, including Berliner Zeitung, Freitag, Spiegel online and Zeit online. Some of her texts have been published in English, French, Italian, Turkish and Spanish. Asiyeh Panahi (Graz)
*1998 in Mashhad, Iran. Her family comes from Afghanistan. She spent her early childhood in the Torbat-e Jam refugee camp near Mashhad, Iran. Writer and poetry slammer. Fled to Austria with her family in 2014. Here she completed her evening school-leaving certificate and obtained a diploma in vocational and social pedagogy at BFI Graz. She is currently studying law at the University of Graz. She was part of the editorial team of the Human Rights Advisory Board’s “Know Your Rights.” Columnist for the street newspaper Megaphon. Participation in poetry festivals, publications in magazines and anthologies, most recently: ‘Habe bewurzelte Stecklinge’ (2023, Edition Lex Liszt Verlag), Jahrbuch österreichischer Lyrik 2022/2023 (Verlag Melos).
Jad Turjman (in memoriam)
*1989 in Damaskus, Syrien. Schriftsteller, Comedian. Studierte in Damaskus englische Literatur und war bis zu seiner Flucht im Jahr 2014 in der Stadtverwaltung tätig. Lebte seit 2015 in Mattsee, Salzburg, arbeitete neben seiner Arbeit als Schriftsteller und Comedian als Asylbetreuer sowie Workshopleiter (Projekt Heroes) mit Jugendlichen und studierte Psychotherapie. Veröffentlichungen auf Deutsch: „Wenn der Jasmin auswandert: die Geschichte meiner Flucht“, 2019, „Der Geruch der Seele: Eine Liebesgeschichte in Zeiten von Krieg und Revolution“, 2021, „Wenn der Jasmin Wurzeln schlägt“, 2022 (posthum), alle bei Residenz. Solo-Programm als Stand-Up Comedian: „Der Flüchtling Ihres Vertrauens“ ab 2020. Jad Turjman ist im Juli 2022 beim Bergsteigen nahe Salzburg tödlich verunglückt.

*1978 in Wien, praktiziert Reine, Reale, Angewandte und Kollektive Literatur im städtischen und ländlichen, öffentlichen und veröffentlichten Raum. Ab 2017 realisierte sie bisher 11 Leerstandsanagramme an Wiener Geschäftsfassaden. 2022 erschien das mehrsprachige Buch Lucida Console – ein Translatorium Maximum im Klever Verlag. Weiters publizierte sie bisher sechs Postkartenbooklets zu großteils im öffentlichen Raum realisierten Projekten. 2023/24 hatte sie einen Lehrauftrag für „Angewandte Literatur“ an der Kunstuniversität Linz. Zuletzt realisierte sie eine die mitteleuropäische Normalzeit sprengende Gleichzeituhr in der Umgebung der Schallaburg. Seit 2005 leitet sie das pakistanische Currylokal Der Wiener Deewan gemeinsam mit Afzaal Deewan.

*1980 in Wien, ist bildende Künstlerin, Buchautorin und aktiv in transnationalen Solidaritäts- und Klimabewegungen. Sie arbeitet als Straßenzeitungs-redakteurin in Wien.
