Absurd miniature museum on a traffic island
In the subway from the lake to the shopping centre, stairs lead to a traffic island between the highway, turn-off lane and the railway. The stairs do not have any function. This absurd urban planning situation provides Dirk Schlichting with the occasion to locate a small building at the foot of the stairs, the stiegenmuseum.ebensee. In this way Ebensee temporarily gains a museum island with a museum with a single exhibit: the stairs, whose middle landing is gilded. By making a museum out of the situation, the location regains a function as a temporary cultural facility. In its architecture and execution, the building relates to the museum.ebensee within the field of vision so that it seems to be an annex of the large museum building.
