“Never judge Braunau by its cover”

Hanna Kirmann and Nina Lucia Groß will be part of the Festival of Regions in Braunau. The city is not unfamiliar territory for the two of them – quite the opposite. They grew up in the city. We asked them to tell us more about themselves and the festival location.

Friend book entries by Hanna Kirmann and Nina Lucia Groß

Hanna Kirmann is realizing a large-scale art project in public space with chickens for the upcoming festival – it should be exciting! She currently works as an arts and crafts teacher in Braunau and is deputy chair of the Innviertler Künstlergilde (Innviertel Artists’ Guild).

What I like to do…

Designing or helping to design – no matter where or in what form.

What I’m currently concerned with culturally…

The discussion about artificial intelligence and its effects on artists and the creative industries.

When I am old…

I hope to have little melancholy and an unquenched curiosity.

If I were younger…

I would hopefully make some mistakes earlier.

If Braunau were an animal…

turtle comes to mind spontaneously.

My secret spot in Braunau

The Stadttorturm tower, 3rd floor – great view.

What I love about you (Braunau)…

The location on the river, the floodplain, the easily traversable border, the Gothic old town.

What I wish for you (Braunau)…

Courage, confidence, vision, new impulses.

What I have always wanted to say to you (Braunau)…

“Never judge a book by its cover” – Braunau, most people know your brown cover, but very few have read you. You are often prejudged because of this. To hold it against you is, of course, unfair, but instead of just always pointing out this injustice, please take care of the story for your readers. Otherwise you will be or will remain in the end – even without a cover – perhaps just a book that nobody necessarily needs to read.

My realistic dream for Braunau…

I dream of many young people who, after their studies or training, return to Braunau from the big city or move there to actively shape the town.

Nina Lucia Groß is a curator, art historian and author, completed a doctorate in art history in Hamburg and is a co-founder of the feminist network femrep e.V. Nina is curating a show for the festival in the exhibition space of the Innviertler Künstlergilde in Braunau, featuring six young artists from the Innviertel region: Luzia Stempfer, Daniel Stempfer, Dominik Gohla, Laura Sperl and Ulrike Schild.

What I like to do…

Host, but I can also be alone well.

What I am currently working on culturally…

Finding spaces of simultaneity.

When I am old…

I would like to live in the landscape of my childhood again.

If I were younger…

I would do everything exactly the same way again.

If Braunau were an animal…

it would perhaps be a blackbird.

My secret spot in Braunau was always…

my grandmother’s garden.

What I love about you (Braunau)…

The facades of the old town houses, the green water in the Inn, the hidden, unassuming beauty.

What I wish for you (Braunau)…

People who care.

What I’ve always wanted to say to you (Braunau)

I will try to tell you this summer.

My realistic dream for Braunau…

People who care.
