A new landmark for Braunau?

“Braunauer Stadtnäherin” Lydia Waldhör presents her textile work to Johannes Waidbacher, mayor of Braunau!

One project that is leaving traces of sustainability on Braunau is the “Braunauer Stadtnäherin”

For 10 days, textile artist Lydia Waldhör ran her studio on Braunau’s town square in the June heat. Equipped with a tent, table, and sewing machine, the “Braunauer Stadtnäherin” created a patchwork quilt from 161 pieces of fabric donated by festival visitors.

The “Braunauer Stadtnäherin” showed how small encounters can grow into a shared local fabric. Visitors to the festival were able to bring their own textiles and combine them into a patchwork, creating a tangible symbol of community.
This project was supported by Arbeiterkammer OÖ (The Upper Austrian Chamber of Labor.)

On November 25, Lydia Waldhör officially handed over her work to Braunau Mayor Johannes Waidbacher. The textile work will be exhibited at the Braunau Regional Music School . A new municipal landmark with significant participation from the people of Braunau!

As “Stadtnäherin”, life in Braunau was good. The openness and accessibility of the people I met during my working stay really touched and inspired me and left me with a different view of the town. I am delighted that an image of this time has now found its place in the community and is being made accessible as a representation of the many encounters, conversations, and stories.”
